This year South Africa hosts the annual international conference of the International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA) from 16-19 May 2018 in Durban. Former Constitutional Court Judge Albie Sachs will deliver the keynote address, asking "Do you have to be white to be green?" in the context of environmental justice in countries in transition.

Four Faculty members are participating in the conference programme:

Prof Willemien du Plessis' presentation is on "Women and illegal mining in Africa". She will also participate in the panel on "Legal Perspectives on Environmental Injustice".

Prof Anél du Plessis' paper is titled "Reconfiguring the role of cities in the global pursuit of socially just and climate resilient cities". She will also participate in the panel on "Legal Perspectives on Environmental Injustice" and convenes a session devoted to environmental justice and the pursuit of sustainable cities.

Prof Louis Kotzé will present on the topic of "The Anthropocene and Global Climate Justice".

Mr John Rantlo will present on the topic of "Ex post facto authorisations and public participation: the courts' view".
