Dr. Johana Kambo Gathongo is the Executive Dean and Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, University of Embu, Kenya, a position he has held since September 2019. He currently teaches Labour and Employment Law, Law of Contract and Business Law.
Dr. Gathongo holds a Doctor of Laws (LLD) in Labour Law, a Master of Laws (LLM) in Labour Law, and an LLB degree, from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Labour Law Practice and has successfully completed the Practical Legal Training (PLT) programme for Attorneys.
With a strong academic background, Dr. Gathongo has supervised over 20 Master’s (LLM) and Doctoral (LLD) students to successful completion. His research interests focus primarily on Employment and Labour Law. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles published in both local and international high-impact law journals.
Before joining the University of Embu, Dr. Gathongo served at Rhodes University in South Africa, where he held the positions of Employee Relations (ER) Manager and later Senior Administrator: Legal, Support, Projects and Services. In these roles, he represented the university at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), conducted disciplinary hearings, advised academic departments on policy compliance and contributed to the drafting and review of institutional policies and legislative updates.
Dr. Gathongo is married and a proud father of two children.
