Members of the Justice in Practice project within the North West University Faculty of Law Research Unit: Law, Justice and Sustainability focus their research on the practical impact of the law on society. Of particular interest is questions around law and justice. The research in the project covers a wide range of legal areas, including:

 

  • property, land reform and expropriation

  • decolonialisation

  • family and children's rights

  • LGBTQ rights

  • constitutional interpretation

  • impact of International law on South African law

  • personality rights

  • legal education

  • law and language

The research output of the participants can be found in books, chapters and journal articles, although public participation in national debates are encouraged. The nature of the output determines the research methodology used and techniques used and range form legal doctoral research, comparative legal studies as well as international and inter-disciplinary studies.
