Background

He is an admitted advocate of the High Court and a former member of the Pretoria Association of Advocates and a registered Master Tax Practitioner with the South African Institute of Taxation.With the recent collaboration between SAIT and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) United Kingdom, Dr Kekana attained an internationally recognised tax designation and is now a Chartered Tax Adviser.

He has worked as a tax practitioner in South Africa for more than 15 years and has assisted clients with high level tax advisory work through assistance with tax compliance, provision of tax opinions and general tax advisory work. Dr Kekana has held memberships of various influential bodies such as the South African Revenue Service Stakeholder Forum as a regional representative of the South African Institute of Taxation. He served as member of the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) Technical Committee (TechCom), also serving as a member of SAIPA Centre of Tax Excellence (CoTE). Dr Kekana has also worked as Tax Continuous Professional Development (CPD) presenter at SAIPA and served as an evaluator for the Tax Thesis competition, evaluating Honours and Masters students from UP, UCT, NWU, UJ and WITS.

In the academic arena, Dr Kekana has lectured Tax Law, Administration of Deceased Estates, Banking Law and related subjects at Monash South Africa as an adjunct lecturer. His area of research is mostly in tax (domestic and international), including Transfer Pricing.
 
Dr Kekana was one of the founding executives at MVN Africa, where he headed the firm’s Tax Department as Executive Head. He has published few articles in SAIPA’s Tax Professional Journal. He also holds directorship positions in few companies such as LLG Energy (Malawi) and Leiden Capital, an investment company with interests in oil and gas, energy and mining investments in Africa.
