Law at the NWU (one at the Potchefstroom Campus and one at the Mahikeng campus) amalgamated, he was appointed Director at the School for Undergraduate Programmes where he oversaw the offering of all law programmes at the three campuses of the University (the Potchefstroom, Vanderbijlpark and Mafikeng campuses), a position which he held until retirement at the end of 2020. After his retirement in 2021, he was appointed Extraordinary Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at the NWU.
Flip Schutte holds the following degrees: BA (PUforCHE) 1978; BJURIS (PUforCHE) 1980; LLB (PUforCHE) 1982; LLD (NWU) 2007. After completion of his studies for the LLB degree at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, Flip completed his articles at the law firm Fleischacks,
Potchefstroom, whereafter he was appointed Professional Assistant at the same firm. He joined the Faculty of Law at the then Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education in 1985 as Senior Lecturer where he lectured the following modules: Law of Evidence, Criminal Procedure and the Law of Estoppel. He was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in 2007.
He completed a thesis for the Doctor Legum degree with the following title: The development of the real agreement where immovable property is transferred: a legal historical research and published various articles on a variety of topics in law journals. He also presented papers at various national and international conferences. Flip received research-grants from the National Research Foundation, the Attorneys' Fidelity Fund and the Max Planck Institute Hamburg.
In 2007 Flip was appointed as the Director: Teaching and Learning at the Faculty of Law at the North-West University Potchefstroom Campus. After the two Faculties of Law at the NWU (one at the Potchefstroom Campus and one at the Mahikeng campus) amalgamated, he was appointed Director at the School for Undergraduate Programmes where he oversaw the offering of all law programmes at the three campuses of the University (the Potchefstroom, Vanderbijlpark and Mafikeng campuses), a position which he held until retirement at the end of 2020.
After his retirement in 2021, he was appointed Extraordinary Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at the NWU.
