Law, Resilience, and Social Justice in the 21st Century
The entire world came to a standstill in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Human beings and institutions were placed in a uniquely precarious position as people’s lives and livelihoods were threatened.
That being said, lives and livelihoods in Southern African society were already in jeopardy before the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic due to, inter alia, high levels of poverty and unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and electricity supply, crime and rising levels of corruption, and various legacies of colonialism and apartheid.
Therefore, the Covid-19 pandemic aggravated pre-existing challenges and brought about a unique set of impediments. Well-functioning and just legal systems are imperative in mapping out a socially just response to the myriad of obstacles facing the Southern African region.
The aim of the conference is accordingly to explore innovative ways in which the people, through the legal system, can build resilience and social justice in an ever-changing world. You are, therefore, cordially invited to submit an abstract of your planned conference paper for consideration. The conference will feature sessions in various legal fields, and abstracts from any area of the law will be considered.
