Background

Dr Selier is currently a senior scientist at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). Dr Selier has more than 25 years of experience in the economic and policy aspects related to conservation and would add tremendous value to our research endeavours and capacity. This must be seen in light of the fact that most of the current research informing conservation and environmental law and policy is interdisciplinary.  I can attest to her value in research as we have already acted as co-authors as can be seen in her CV. Dr Selier is an established researcher with many publications in high-impact journals, popular press, as well as contributions to books.

Dr Selier will further add value to our current LLM and MPhil in environmental law and governance by being able to give guest lectures as well as supervising thesis and dissertations. Given the current emphasis of the NWU on community and industry engagement, having Dr Selier as a research fellow will provide the perfect platform for engaging with the industry in a direct and meaningful way. Her participation in our research endeavours will further help to align the focus of our research outputs to the needs of the conservation community and society.
