An honorary degree doctor legum was conferred upon Prof. Altus Joubert SC, of the Johannesburg Bar, by the North-West University “in recognition of his excellence as an academic and legal practitioner, international status and recognition, contribution to the law and education, community involvement and special connection with the faculty of law at the North-West University.” Prof. Joubert is a well-known and respected figure at the Johannesburg Bar. He took the degrees BA and LLB at the University of Stellenbosch, an MBA at UCT, and an LLM from Potchefstroom and a second LLM from the Łazarski University, Warsaw. From 2001 to 2004, he was a professor in public law at the University of Stellenbosch and, for the past 15 years he has served as a professor of law at the North-West University. More than 100 master’s students have studied under him and graduated with an LLM in Import and Export Law.
