Bio Arie Trouwborst Associate professor of environmental law at Tilburg University, interested in understanding and improving the contribution of (international and European) law to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of biodiversity. Received an LLM (2001) and PhD (2006) from Utrecht University. Authored various books and numerous journal articles on a range of legal instruments, countries, species and topics. Likes to combine law with ecology and other relevant disciplines. Current research mainly concerns large mammals (megafauna) in Africa and Europe. Recent publications address, e.g., rhinoceros conservation, leopard trophy export quotas, wolf management, wildlife translocations, and the legal status of animals pioneering beyond their historic ranges. Frequent consultant for international entities, national governments and NGOs. Recipient of several research prizes and grants, including for projects on climate adaptation and large carnivores. Serves on several international expert groups and editorial (advisory) boards. Certified wildlife tracker (level Track & Sign III).
