Get Ready to Register at the NWU!

You have received the final offer, accepted it and are ready to start your NWU journey. The NWU registration portal will open and only be available from Monday 20 January 2025.

Here is a list of questions and steps to get you ready for a smooth registration.

How will I know, I am ready to register?

You will have received a final offer from the NWU, and once you have accepted the offer on the application portal, your status will change to “Registration Ready” (formerly SIS STATUS).

Set up your NWU email address: When you are ready to register, we have a helpful guide to set up your email address. You will be able to set up your email address when the portal opens from 20 January.

Access the Student Portal: You will receive an email with your Student Portal login details by 20 January. The Portal will help you manage your university journey from start to finish. It’s a range of self-service features like registration, tracking your financial status, and reviewing your academic performance.

Pay your minimum fees: Log onto the Student Portal and go to the “My Finances” category to access the payment portal. Please use your 8-digit student number as a reference when paying your minimum fees.

What can I do to prepare?

Visit the yearbooks and familiarise yourself with the courses (modules) that you will be taking for this year.

We hope this gives you a good starting point for registration. For more information, visit: Registration | Studies | NWU | North-West University

Transitioning from High School to NWU

The transition from high school to university can be exciting. There’s so much to learn and new experiences to have, but it can also be overwhelming.

Here are a few tips to help you get ready for your transition:

  • Get organised: University is a lot more independent than high school, so it’s important to be able to manage your time and workload. Start by creating a schedule for yourself and setting up a system for organising your notes and assignments.
  • Develop good study habits: Classes are more challenging than high school classes, so have good study habits in place. This means attending classes, taking good notes, and studying for exams early.
  • Get involved in the student community: There are many different ways to get involved in the student community, such as joining a club or organisation, or volunteering. Getting involved is a great way to meet new people and make friends.
  • Take care of yourself: It’s important to take care of yourself both physically and mentally during university. Get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, and exercise regularly. It’s also important to find healthy ways to manage stress, like spending time with friends.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help: Many people are here to help you succeed, such as your professors, mentors, and friends. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re struggling in a class or need guidance on anything.
  • Enjoy the experience! University is a special time in your life. Make the most of it by learning new things, meeting new people, and trying new things.

We hope these tips help you make a smooth transition.
